Your Essential Blog Text Design Checklist

You already know that your blog’s design is one of the most essential characteristics of your blog. If readers don’t like your design, they’ll leave without reading a word. To gain long-term readers, your blog has to be easy on the eyes, both literally and figuratively. Ready to redo your blog design? Here’s a checklist to follow to make sure you’re crafting the best design possible.

  1. Did you choose an easy-to-read font? Yes, there are a trillion really cool fonts out there. Yes, you could use one or all of them. However, your blog font is not the place to show off your personality. Web readers want to skim what you write quickly– don’t distract them with an unprofessional font. Stick with the tried-and-true Helvetica, Verdana, Ariel, etc. If you’re absolutely dying to use a creative font, use it in your blog header. Just remember that it has to be legible.
  2. Did you choose a crazy font color? No, no, no. Stick with black or a shade of light gray (white on a black background is hard on your readers’ eyes). Dark reds and blues are also acceptable. Anything neon is out of the question.
  3. Is your text obnoxiously large or ridiculously tiny? You don’t want to give your readers eyestrain, but you don’t want to insult their intelligence, either. Big fonts make you look and sound juvenile.

Web design is a good idea if you are looking for an at home job, but you can work from an office or both if you like. If you want to get a degree, you may want to work toward getting a bachelor’s in computer science. The great thing about this is that you can take online college courses from home as well as working from home. Look into getting certified in an area of computer science so you can specialize.

Preparing for a Job

Because the field of web design is so competitive, it is important that you make a portfolio for yourself and spend a lot of time on it, especially if you have no job experience. Your portfolio will show employers what level you are at and what you are capable of. Try to make your portfolio appropriate for the company you are applying to.

Finding Jobs

You may want to start out with a job at a small company to get experience and build a better portfolio. You can ask friends, family, recruiters, design companies, and anyone else you know if you can do some web design for them to get started.

Younger generations were not old enough to remember the painstaking days of dial-up Internet access. This time period was plagued by slow Internet connections and constant service interruptions. However, since then, the concept of Internet access has evolved quickly, and become much more efficient. Below are a few of the most notable elements that have contributed to more user-friendly Internet access.

WiFi

WiFi opened the door to an entirely new world of Internet access. Instead of relying on cables and wires plugged into a computer and being tied down with having to stay in one place, people were able to gain Internet access on the go. This made it easy to do any number of tasks that need online access, such as working, emailing and the various recreational activities.

Mobile Devices

One of the biggest changes in how people access the Internet now compared to the age of dial-up access is through cell phones. Various providers such as Cricket Wireless began implementing services into their cell phone packages that would allow users to use the Internet wirelessly from their mobile device. Currently, it is difficult to imagine a world where people could not connect to the Internet with their cell phone, as more people are doing it now than through their computer.

Since wireless access has spread to the mainstream and become a primary way people access the Internet, there have been improvements to signal strength. This has made wireless networks more efficient in terms of the realm of access as well as the strength of the connection for users who connect to the network.
